Theresa
It's well past closing and Theresa's already put some distance between her
and her workplace. The subway station's still a little ways off and it's getting
quite late, so she picks up the pace a bit, walking at a brisk speed. Normally
she'd have walked this far with one of the bouncers, but he called in sick and
the other one lives on the other side of town. And so she finds herself alone on
a scary street at night in the Big Apple. Touching the little cross at her
throat, she murmurs a quiet little prayer and keeps on going.
Footsteps resound from somewhere behind Theresa... or at least, that's what they
sound like. Clop clop clop... leather on pavement... there's definitely someone
there but where are they? How far off? There's no one in sight... but there's
more sound too. A car rapidly approaching from the way that Theresa is heading.
It's speeding along at perhaps forty miles an hour; quite fast for this small of
a street really. But even that is not in sight yet.
After her recent discussion with Logan, Theresa speeds up just a little and
looks around. Must be her imagination. Surely. But that doesn't stop her from
glancing around for some kind of shelter to duck into just in case. A bus
terminal or even a pub that hasn't quite closed up just yet.
"Theresa Cassiday," The voice comes from behind her and very suddenly, a man
seems to be there, walking toward her. He's bald, menacing and dressed in a dark
suit with a white shirt and matching tie. "Stop right there. We need to have a
word with you." The car in question turns the corner and is on this street now,
flashing lights like a cop car in the window. It's coming up to stop before her.
Now the poor girl just about jumps out of her skin as she spins briefly to look
at the man. Her gaze flickers rapidly between him and the car which is
approaching. She doesn't stop moving, however, getting ready to apparently bolt
in any direction she can -- she's already looking for the best direction to go
in, even if it's down a side alley. "Who are you?" she demands, trying to sound
as brave as she can be, still moving, trying to keep distance between her and
the man.
"We represent a part of the government most concerned with public safety,"
Replies the man evenly. "Especially where the beaches are concerned. It's come
to our attention that you, like a few others, are still spouting nonsense about
sea monsters to whoever will listen. We had hoped you would forget about it but
now it seems that we need to have a little talk." He draws a firearm from his
pocket. "I'd rather you not run." The car stops.
Seeing the firearm causes an immediate reaction in Theresa. Although she spent
most of her time in the southern area of Ireland while growing up, she visited
Belfast on occasions enough to not react too well to guns. Eyes going wide, she
turns from the man and quickly flees toward the nearest alley, zig-zagging in
her panic.
"After her," The guy doesn't yell it but shortly after there are four pairs of
feet giving chase. "Stop or we'll fire!" Says one of the voices; a different one
that's a bit more passionate and as if true to his word, a round is discharged,
echoing off the building and causing a dog to bark. "The next won't miss!!"
She can't help it. The bullet ricocheting off of the building pulls a very
abrupt, very powerful sound from her body even as she instinctively covers her
head and twists briefly to face where the bullet came from... Theresa screams.
The sound is definitely sonic in nature... she can't scream in any lesser
quality. A split second after this 'slip' occurs, she turns around and continues
running as fast as she can, looking for the first turn she can take.
The pursuit seems to end with that but whatever results would be hard to tell
for her part. She darts down that alley and for a moment, it seems like there's
no one in sight but an empty street ahead. It's when she approaches the mouth
that two men will attempt to hop out and catch her, immediately demanding that
she calm down; that she's not going to be hurt. Of course, that's if they catch
her.
She comes to a stumbling halt as she sees the two men at the alley-mouth before
her. Theresa's still in full panic mode. She doesn't think she can go back. She
can't go forward. So she quickly looks around her for any doors or openings she
missed in her initial flight as she slowly backs away from them. "Keep away from
me!" she demands, a bit of hysteria on the edge of her voice.
"Just stop!" One of them holds his hand up. "We don't want to hurt you but if
you don't hear us out, we won't have a choice. Seriously, calm down!" The doors
are all secured but there are a few to try... and the people behind might not
have pursued depending no how effective her scream was. Either way, these guys
mean business but they don't have their weapons drawn.
"How do you even know me name?? You hooligans dressed in suits come at a young
lass in the wee hours of the morn on the scary streets of this city and you want
me to be /calm/?" Theresa demands, still moving back away from them. Apparently,
the Irish lass has a bit of fight in her yet. With that, she spins on her heel
and bolts back the way she came, praying to God, Jesus, Mary, Joseph, all the
saints, angels and hell, even the Easter Bunny, whomever might be listening to
please, please, please keep her path clear. What? She's not thinking too clearly
right now.
That's when the car comes down the alley, blocking that side as well. The window
rolls down in the passenger side and the guy leans out. "For fuck's sake, you
haven't contained her yet?" He draws out a tazer; one of the projectile kinds
and takes a shot at her. In the dark and distance, it'll be a good hit if he
does connect but he seems pretty sure in his aim. The guys behind start chasing
too.
Theresa hops back as she sees the car and then the man with the tazer. Without
even a second thought, she does the only thing she can do being boxed in like
this. She screams again, but this time she means it. She draws in a deep breath
as quickly as she can and just /bellows/ as hard and long as she can, intending
to use her full power and to use her voice as a weapon now... not a reaction to
being startled. The neighbourhood will feel this one unless they can stop her.
That scream makes the tazer fall to the ground, the two prongs going wide and
smacking the wall. The people in the car freak out, grabbing at their ears and
instinctively moving back. The people behind stop moving; apparently they
underestimated this one. That's okay, they didn't come wholly unprepared but for
the moment, pursuit is halted.
As they move back, Theresa sucks in breath for one more prolonged scream as dogs
in the immediate surroundings begin to howl and whimper. At this point, anyone
in the immediate vicinity's going to feel quite out of it and stunned, giving
her just enough time at the end of this scream to bolt again, pushing her way
past anyone in her way... providing it affected everyone.
